I have been trying out my renters tips of my bathrooms since before Arch was born, and every time I think I’ve finished, something fails, and I need to re-think. I promise when you guys finally get to see the finished project it will be amzing…well I’m hoping I wont have over hyped it too much.
The bathroom. Often such an understated room. But your bathroom should be the room where you can unwind and de-stress after a busy day. But one common mistake that a lot of people make is that they concentrate purely on function. This can often result in a boring fittings and fixtures that lack in both style and personality. Which isn’t ideal when you’re trying to feel relaxed and comfortable. This room should be jam-packed with interesting design features that make you go wow every time you enter. This is a room with so much potential that you could utilise if you think creatively about it. It doesn’t matter if you’re starting from scratch or giving your bathroom an update. These tips should provide you with some much-needed inspiration and yes I’m aware we are still just talking about bathrooms. But to the tips!
Use Vintage fittings
To create a truly unique and individual feel, vintage and second-hand is the way to go. Whether it’s a reclaimed bath or by decorating with some old perfume bottles. There are so many ways you can introduce vintage style into your bathroom. Trawl antique and secondhand stores to find loads of treasures. Go with an open mind and think outside of the box. You can upcycle a cabinet by repainting it in a different colour, or change the primary use of an item. For example, use vintage tap fixtures as hooks for your bathroom instead. I love those tiles and that mirror!
There is nothing worse than a bathroom that is painted all white and has white fittings too. It becomes very sterile and uninviting. Adding some colour can completely change the feel of a bathroom and creates a more homely vibe. Even if it means just painting a cabinet like this one a bright colour! The possibilities are endless. Why not keep your walls white but have a multi-coloured mosaic tiles? Or add some bold, graphic wall art? Patterned blinds come in a variety of colours and designs to suit any sized room. Go with a single colour or loud print design that also fits your window perfectly. Invest in a Bespoke Glass Shower door that features a new and exciting colour.
Some of the most eye-catching and interesting bathroom designs combine styles from the past and present. If you live in an older home with lots of historical character pieces, don’t remove them. Decorative fireplaces, for instance, make a bathroom feel luxurious. It could also add more functionality to the space if you can get it working. Don’t be afraid to mix modern decor with traditional bathroom fittings or flooring. The key is to experiment and have fun with it. I love the idea of having a bath tub behind a sheer curtain…it kind of screams goddess…no?
I’m sure one day, I’ll finally finish my rented bathroom makeover…probably just before we move house knowing my luck!
