Wedding Wednesday’s: How I picture my day /21

So I have come to the conclusion I am not a normal bride to be. I have been happily engaged for 7 months now, and I have only booked the photographer. Check her out here, she’s awesome. Unlike most women who throw themselves into wedding planner, I am just taking it slow…maybe too slow, but slow. I suppose I don’t want to impulse plan, or settle, thats not to say people who plan their weddings quickly are doing that, I just know how I am with making decisions, and sometimes it’s best for me to way up all the options.

So I know the area I want to get married, I am still working on the feel and mood of the day. I would love to be near a lake, to have a fireplace, and possibly rooms on location for older guests and friends and family with young children. I’d also like the idea of a barn, somewhere which can still be picturesque even in cold November. If you know of a  place like this in the Cotswolds drop me a link!

I want it to be fun, and colourful without having a tight schedule, I want to be able to relax and enjoy the day and the food. Especially the food. Flowers everywhere, pretty string lights, and people enjoying themselves. Good cake too.

Here’s a few pictures that might get what I want across…maybe..

Maybe I should hire a planner??

hmm..Also I want a band, know any, let me know!

ta for now

Ok so as my planning gets ever more exciting, I have nearly decided on a colour scheme, I find myself learning more and more about  traditions and facts I never knew about weddings, so I thought i’d share with you my top 10 facts I didn’t know.

Fact 1. Engagement and wedding rings are worn on the fourth finger on the left hand because it was once thought that the vein in that finger led directly to the heart. The vein of love or Vena Amoris. I have to say I think this is my favourite fact of my list..so it’s all down hill from here…just kidding.

Fact 2. The groom carries the bride across the threshold to bravely protect her from evil spirits lurking below.  I have noticed that their a lot of traditions warning off evil spirits, it’s all rather fascinating really, when you learn the next couple of facts which are from different cultures.

Fact 3. According to Hindu tradition rain on your wedding day is good luck.

Fact 4. In Holland a pine tree is planted outside the newly-weds home as a symbol of fertility and luck.

Fact 5. In Korea, brides wear bright hues of red and yellow to take their vows.

Fact 6. In Denmark, brides and grooms traditionally cross-dressed to confuse evil spirits. Although I haven’t managed to find any pictures of it. So maybe this is an old tradition…I am not sure.

Fact 7. The something blue in a bridal ensemble symbolizes purity, fidelity and love.

How lovely is this idea for something blue and something new! From Etsy Shop Arte Di Amore.

Fact 8. Saturday is the most unluckiest day to get married. Wednesday is the best. Tuesday is good for health and Monday for wealth… But yet Saturday is the most popular day to get married…

Fact 9. It is believed that if the younger of two sisters marries first, the older sister must dance at the wedding barefoot or risk never landing a husband. Thank fully Abby (my younger sister) has a while before she thinks about getting married.

Fact 10. I have an emerald engagement ring so I was looking at the meanings of different stones, bar finding out that they scratch easily (great I know),  they symbolise true love, loyalty and devotion. They are also believed to give you a hint if your partner is unfaithful by changing colour.

So there you have possibly a few things you didn’t know about weddings. Next week you get to see how I asked my Bridesmaid and Maid of honours to be a part of our special day.

With all the preparing for the craft show on Monday, I have been more then occupied with other things. My house looks like a unicorn has died in it. Colour and glitter everywhere. Anyway, I am not going to lie to you, I am no closer to planning our wedding, the venue and colours are still a mystery to me, so today I just wanted to have fun, and look at cute random ideas for weddings.

So here they are.

We all know my love of lego, and me and Richard already had this idea, but having the blocks that they stand on with names on, just takes it that bit further. This is from here.

Richard thinks these are cheesy, but I kind of love them, they could be shoes to change into for the reception.. This  from Wedding Chicks.

A sweet bar is a must, look at all those goodies. Get them here.

I love this idea, it’s so sweet and would look lovely as a new piece in your home after the wedding. I got this from here. Plus you could get stamp pads that match your wedding colours…so special no?

This is so awesome, precise and to the point, and having refreshments during the ceremony which may be outside is such a cute idea!! And look at those colours and graphics… This is from Bridal Musings.

I love love love this idea, so sweet and unique, this is perfect for a winter wedding too, maybe put some faux fur coats in the mix too…this is from Bridal Musings too.

I am so doing this for the kids who are invited to the wedding, a nice way to entertain them during the day! Get the print out’s here at Something Turquoise.

Who doesn’t love confetti and bursts of colour everywhere. This is from a birthday party but I am loving the balloons. See the post here.

I love balloons and I love this photo. It’s so simple yet so beautiful no?? This is from The happiest are the prettiest blog.

I love this, I don’t even care if its cheesy. Get yourself two chairs do them up and this is a cute decor idea which I think will wow your guest and make them go awww.. haha. This is from Green Wedding Shoes.

So there are my pins for my wedding wishlist. At the rate things are going there is going to be a lot going on…probably too much, at our wedding!!

Speak soon all!!

Ok so now I am newly engaged, the fun begins of planning the wedding. Now I have a few ideas already, but I’m nowhere near ready to start planning a wedding…yet. So I aim to fill the space with ideas every Wednesday, and slowly build up a mood board of my favourite pins and ideas. I will also be experimenting with DIY wedding fave’s, so hopefully I can inspire you too!

So lets get started,as I have never planned anything like this, I brought a couple of magazines, Brides to be specific, and they suggested some apps which can help you get started. I went for WedHappy. The basic version is free, and it gives you check list and rough dates for when things need to be done. First task, setting the date.

Ok so we have a few dates in mind which we are going to keep to ourselves for the meantime until the date is official, but I let you know the year and the favourable month we are thinking. November 2016.

The next item on the agenda is a venue, as I guess venues need to be booked way in advance, especially for popular months during Spring and Summer. I have been looking at some venues, just online and looking at pinterest for the type of thing I want. Here are some places which look amazing.

First thing, first. I’m not getting married in NYC (I wish) but I love this list of alternative places to get married there, which was featured on BuzzFeed. The best thing about Pinterest, is you can get ideas on layout, decor, and features that you might want at your venue, plus, I like to find places that might appeal to all of our readers.

Brooklyn Botanical Gardens is number 5 on the list, but how breathtakingly beautiful does this look, all that light? and in the evening, safe to say, it’s a constant instagram moment.

See the rest of the list here.
